The Stewardship Audit

Wrapping up the Finances series with the technical process of the quarterly review. Keep your ledger clean and your heart aligned.

The 30-Second Summary

A high-performance Kingdom manager never operates on autopilot. The Stewardship Audit is the final technical piece of the Finances protocol; a recurring quarterly review designed to ensure your resources are still flowing toward the mission. By reviewing your Freedom Number, your Dividend Engine, and your heart’s alignment with the 10/90 Standard, you prevent drift and maintain the momentum required for full-time re-deployment in Southeast Missouri.

Preventing Mission Drift

In the Ozarks, we know that if you don’t steer the boat, the current will take you wherever it wants. In finances, the “current” is lifestyle creep, consumerism, and the slow return of the “Owner Delusion.”

You might start with great intensity, but without a recurring audit, your Wants bucket will slowly grow, and your investment gap will shrink. The Stewardship Audit is your scheduled “course correction.” It is a formal meeting with the Master (and your spouse, if married) to account for the assets under your management.

The Audit Checklist

Every 90 days, you should run your household through these four technical checks:

1. The Freedom Number Update

Re-calculate your 4% Rule targets based on your current assets. Has your “time to freedom” decreased? If not, why? Use this data to fuel your intensity for the next quarter.

2. The Leak Check

Perform a fresh Cash Flow Audit. Look for new subscriptions, insurance rate hikes, or “mindless” spending habits that have snuck back into your 90%.

3. The Dividend Engine Inspection

Review your portfolio. Are your Dividend Engine assets still paying out as expected? Are there high-yield opportunities you should be taking advantage of in the current market? Ensure your DRIP is still active and working.

4. The Heart Alignment Check

Be honest: Are you still tithing on the Gross? Are you still viewing your time in Van Buren as something to be bought back for the Kingdom? If you feel anxiety or greed returning, go back to Step 1: The Ownership Shift.

The Goal: A Life of “Well Done”

At Covenant Church, we want to hear the Master say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” That phrase isn’t just about your soul; it’s about your management. We are building a tribe of stewards in Southeast Missouri who are technically proficient, debt-free, and fully available for the mission.

You have the protocol. Now, execute.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it really necessary to do this every three months?

Yes. The global economy and your personal life change rapidly. A quarterly audit is frequent enough to catch problems before they become disasters, but spread out enough to allow your Dividend Engine to show real progress.

What if my spouse finds the audit stressful?

Shift the focus from “checking up on spending” to “tracking toward freedom.” Use the Architecture of Trust to make this a time of dreaming together about what your Re-Deployment phase will look like once your time is bought back.

How do I handle an audit if I’m single?

Don’t do it in a vacuum. Meet with a member of your Phalanx or a trusted mentor in Southeast Missouri. Show them your numbers. Radical transparency is the best defense against the “Owner Delusion.”

What if my audit shows I’m moving backward?

Don’t hide the data. A bad audit is a diagnostic tool. If you’re moving backward, it means one of the levers(income, expenses, or investment yield)needs to be pulled. Adjust the protocol and try again next quarter.

Action Steps

  1. The Calendar Invite: Set a recurring meeting on your calendar for the first Sunday of every quarter. Label it “Stewardship Audit.”
  2. The Ledger Update: Update your total net worth and annual income projections today.
  3. The Celebration: If you see progress, celebrate! Stewardship is hard work, and seeing your “Freedom Number” get closer is a major win for the Kingdom.
