Your Past Sucks. So What? God Isn't Done.

I leave myself audio notes all week. Little voice memos while I’m driving, walking, thinking out loud. Then Sunday morning I try to clean them up, and half the time I sound like a man arguing with himself in a parked truck.

That is what a stuck mind sounds like.

You hear a promise from God and your brain fires back, I don’t see how. Poverty has been in the family so long it feels like a last name. Addiction. Heartache. The picture hanging in your head says it can’t happen. So you dismiss the message because you can’t sketch the blueprint yet.

Who Told You That Picture Was True?

God asked Adam a question we still need: “Who told you that you were naked?” (Genesis 3:11).

Who told you your heart couldn’t be healed? Who told you a better future wasn’t for you? Who hung that picture and convinced you to bow to it?

Psalm 107:20 says, “He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” Not a paperback you pitch when a chapter gets hard. Living Word. Hebrews 4:12 says it is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It cuts between your spinning feelings and the truth. It cuts between the voices on your phone and the Promise.

Paul wasn’t ashamed of the gospel, because it’s the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16). When you hear it and believe it, it washes you. It heals a heart. You don’t fire the truth because it takes a little work to understand. Sometimes I’m hard to understand. The Word still does what He sent it to do.

Plant It Until the Picture Changes

Here is the point: the old picture is not the final word. Plant His Word until a new one sticks.

Isaiah 55:11 says, “so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” It can’t be undone. You hide it in your heart. You let it come out of your mouth. You get around people who will nourish it instead of starving it.

He gave you imagination so you can see a preferred future even when you don’t know the how. That’s the test of faith. He wants to lead you out, which means you follow. The Rescue came with a sacrifice and with a Word. Receive both. Let the Word renew your mind and heal your heart until the old message loses its microphone.
